Big picture

I often find myself thinking.

What if we tackled the problem of police shooting of unarmed suspects?

What if we resolved the issue of schooling in the city of Philadelphia?

What if we got racial equality and justice in USA?

BUT, Jesus never really focused on these things in His speeches or teachings. What does that day about my focus?

Matthew 10 freely received, freely give

It is amazing that Jesus called the Twelve and gave them His power to cast out demons, heal the sick, raise the dead in Matthew 10.  Among these Twelve was "Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him." (10:4)

The disciple who betrayed Jesus was given such power during Jesus earthly ministry; the same as the other eleven.  Wow!  It seems to be summed up in verse 8 when Jesus said to them to perform these God miracles to the lost sheep of the house of Israel... "Freely you have received, freely give..."

What is God showing us by pointing this out in the book of Matthew?  Judas who betrayed Jesus witnessed all that Jesus did during His earthly ministry, and even he himself was used to perform God miracles.  And yet, Judas betrayed Jesus by turning Jesus in to be captured.  Ph how amazing is His grace (undeserved, unmerited favor)...

Sports and stuff: the "okay" idol

As I skim through dozens of Facebook updates, I can't help but notice how often our passions show up as rants and raves about the Phillies or [insert team here]. And it's not like I'm immune. Social justice, urban farming, sustainable living, video games...

But as Christians, we are to have a singular ultimate passion. How often does He show up in our feeds and updates? And if He does not, isn't it another subtle sin that we've given ground to in our lives?

Buzzword "Technology Adoption"

Its popular to hear from big clients and gov the phrase "technology adoption" especially when talking about renewable energy technologies.  I am thinking about it now and am trying to decipher the phrase to get at what people really are saying...

Technology adoption is also saying what is the breakeven cost... sweet spot... that makes dollars sense to be willing to buy solar technology for my building?

Technology adoption is saying I know little to nothing about the technology but thinks its really intriguing... Yet what am I really benefiting at the end of the day?

Technology adoption is wondering if I am the first in the neighbourhood to buy it... to try it... and what will it add to my company's benefit.. or my personal reputation?
